Hand-Cap Dance was created in March of 2009 by Artistic Director Mark Rivera, an aspiring dancer and a Communication Arts major.
The purpose of Hand-Cap Dance is to expose the art of dance to all individuals including those with disabilities by having disabled and non-disabled young artists work together. The two groups will work together, molding and enhancing their artistic abilities, while fostering compassion and understanding among non-disabled and disabled artists.
Artistic Director, Mark Rivera is a young artist who majors in Communication Arts and is an aspiring dancer. Born with mild Cerebral Palsy, Mark struggled to find understanding amongst his peers at school while growing up. When he decided to pursue dance, he found it difficult to find a place where people with disabilities can go to learn despite their challenges. With pure determination and support by various people, Mark is starting a dance company unlike any other within the City of Paterson.
